On 29th April, Ballet Nights 011: Convergence arrives at Cadogan Hall with a programme that promises both intimacy and brilliance. At its heart lies a truly special moment: the return of two exceptional artists, Alina Cojocaru and Denys Cherevychko, performing together in George Balanchine’s celebrated Diamonds.
For audiences, Cojocaru needs little introduction. Born in Bucharest and shaped by her early training in Kyiv before refining her artistry at The Royal Ballet School, she has long been regarded as one of the most poetic ballerinas of her generation. Her meteoric rise at The Royal Ballet, where she was promoted to Principal in 2001 following her unforgettable Giselle, cemented her reputation for emotional depth and musical sensitivity.

Later moving to English National Ballet as a Lead Principal, her career has been defined not only by iconic classical interpretations, from Swan Lake to Romeo and Juliet, but also by a fearless embrace of contemporary voices. Collaborations with choreographers such as Christopher Wheeldon and Akram Khan reveal an artist constantly evolving, while her work as a producer and artistic director reflects a deep commitment to shaping ballet’s future. Her recent co-production of La Strada, which premiered at Sadler’s Wells Theatre, is just one example of her continued creative reach.
Alongside her is Denys Cherevychko, an artist of striking power and refinement. Trained in Ukraine and later in Munich, Cherevychko’s career flourished at the Vienna State Ballet, where he was promoted to Principal Dancer in 2012. His dancing combines formidable technique with dramatic clarity, a rare balance that has made him a sought-after guest artist across the world.

Ballet Nights audiences will already be familiar with his commanding stage presence. Having performed on the Ballet Nights Main Stage in both London and Bucharest, Cherevychko’s return feels not only fitting but anticipated. His partnership with Cojocaru has already captivated audiences on tour in Richmond and Brighton - and now, this celebrated pairing comes to Convergence.

Balanchine’s Diamonds is the perfect centrepiece to the evening. Created by George Balanchine as part of the full-length Jewels, Diamonds is a love letter to the grandeur of classical ballet. With its sweeping formations, imperial elegance, and Tchaikovsky score, it evokes the opulence of the Russian tradition while demanding pristine musicality and control from its performers.
