Ballet Nights Masterclasses arrive in Leeds on October 4th for the first time, hosted in the studios of Northern Ballet. Join Principal Dancer Sarah Chun and artists from Taiwan's internationally acclaimed B.DANCE to learn repertoire from Floating Flowers, featured on the Ballet Nights UK Tour.
This unique workshop offers dancers the opportunity to explore the work's expressive movement, refine their artistry and technique, and gain insight into the creative process while working alongside world-class artists in an inspiring professional environment.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Classical Ballet with Sarah Chun
Sarah is originally from Chicago, Illinois, where she began her ballet training at the Faubourg School of Ballet before earning a scholarship to continue her studies at the Joffrey Ballet Academy of Chicago. During her training, she achieved notable success at the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) Chicago Semi-Finals, receiving multiple awards.
Following graduation, Sarah danced with Oklahoma City Ballet and Kansas City Ballet, where she built a diverse and versatile repertoire. She is currently a Principal Dancer with Northern Ballet, based in Leeds, performing extensively throughout the UK and internationally.
Throughout her career, Sarah has performed leading roles in both classical and contemporary works by acclaimed choreographers including George Balanchine, Kenneth MacMillan, David Nixon OBE, Mthuthuzeli November, Cathy Marston, and many others. In recognition of her artistry, she was nominated for the 2025 Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance.
Alongside her performing career, Sarah is passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of dancers. She has enjoyed guest teaching in both Chicago and across the UK, sharing the experience and artistry she has developed throughout her professional career in a supportive and inspiring environment.
Contemporary and repertoire with B.DANCE from Taiwan
This workshop offers participants an opportunity to enter the poetic universe of Floating Flowers, one of B.DANCE’s most internationally acclaimed works.
Rather than simply learning choreography, participants will explore how movement can emerge from imagination, sensation, connection, and embodied awareness.
Developed through Po-Cheng Tsai’s PO.reographic System — a methodology that investigates how human beings perceive, relate, and generate meaning through the body. This workshop invites dancers to experience repertoire as a living process rather than a fixed sequence of steps. Drawing from selected excerpts of Floating Flowers, participants will be guided through the movement principles, physical qualities, and relational dynamics that shape the work.
Together, we will explore:
• Fluidity and transformation within the moving body
• Listening through movement and shared attention
• The relationship between individuality and collective flow
• Imagery as a catalyst for physical expression
• The poetic potential of contemporary dance practice
At the heart of Floating Flowers lies a simple question:
How do we remain connected to one another in a constantly shifting world?
Through movement, participants will engage with this question not through words, but through physical experience.This workshop welcomes dancers, movers, and curious bodies who are interested in contemporary movement, artistic research, and new ways of experiencing choreography.
No prior knowledge of B.DANCE repertoire is required.

MEET THE TEAM
Classical Ballet
Gavin McCaig
Gavin McCaig is a Scottish ballet teacher, choreographer and arts leader who trained at The Dance School of Scotland and English National Ballet School. Following a successful career with Northern Ballet, where he performed leading roles and was promoted to Junior Soloist, he has established himself as an inspiring coach and mentor. Gavin has taught and led workshops for Northern Ballet Academy, the Royal Academy of Dance, Scottish Ballet Associates, Elmhurst Ballet School, London Studio Centre and international programmes in Portugal. He is Deputy Chair of Yorkshire Dance, Chief Operating Officer of Fundamentally Dance and a former Director of London Vocational Ballet School, bringing a wealth of professional, artistic and leadership experience to every class.

Jordan James Bridge
Jordan James Bridge is a multi-award-winning choreographer and performer working across dance, film, and fashion. He has been a company artist with Wayne McGregor (seven years), Michael Clark Company, Alexander Whitley Dance Company, and Tavaziva Dance. His work spans major stages and global platforms including The Royal Ballet at the Roundhouse, English National Opera, BBC Two, COS at Pitti Uomo, Google Arts & Culture, ABBA Voyage, Disney’s The Marvels, and Milan Fashion Week with Moschino. His award-winning dance films include Us, Locked Down, and PARASITE. In 2024, he created Falling into Jupiter for Győri Ballet and received a National Dance Award nomination.

HOW TO GET HERE
By Bus:
Leeds central bus and coach station sits directly opposite Leeds Playhouse — around a two-minute walk from Northern Ballet.

The station is the terminus for numerous local and regional bus services across the city and surrounding area.

Regular coach services also run from Hull, Manchester and London (National Express).
By Train:
Leeds Railway Station, on New Station Street, is approximately a 15-minute walk from Northern Ballet.
From the station, head east across the city centre towards Quarry Hill — just follow the brown tourist signs for Leeds Playhouse, and you'll find Northern Ballet right beside it.
BALLET NIGHTS UK TOUR 2026
11 MARCH — 3 OCTOBER 2026
In March 2026, we embark on our first-ever UK tour, bringing our acclaimed format to the Opera House Manchester, Theatre Royal Brighton, and Richmond Theatre, followed by our October landing at Darlington Hippodrome.
Audiences will experience a uniquely curated programme spanning classical favourites, modern masterpieces, emerging talent, and brand-new creations that redefine what a dance show can be, with additional venues and dates soon to be announced.
